Cabo Blanco Reserve

The Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve encompasses 1,172 hectares of mixed forest, which is classified as moist tropical forest. About 150 trees have been identified. Evergreen species predominate, but dry, deciduous forest species are found as well. It was the first protected area of the country, established in 1963. The forest is home to a large variety of animals like white-tailed deer, pacas, armadillos, anteaters, howler, spider and capuchin monkeys, collared peccary, coyotes, porcupines, raccoons and coatis. Among the many birds are magpie jay, motmot, long-tailed manakin, cattle egret, crested caracara, elegant trogon, white bellied chachalaca, ringed kingfisher and sulphur- winged parakeet.

Fishing Tour

At the southern end of Mal Pais is the small fishermen port from where boat and fishing tours go around the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. The maritime sanctuary of Cabo Blanco protects many aquatic species, and from a boat you can watch dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles, and whales. Some of the species that we have are: yellowfin tuna, mahi- mahi, red snapper, rooster fish, wahoo, black sea bass, black grouper, greater amberjack. The kind of fishes you could catch depends on the season you come here.

Canopy

If you are placed in Santa Teresa, Mal Pais or Montezuma there are two choices to do zipline:
Canopy del Pacífico: this is located in Mal País very close from the fishermen port, it has a great ocean view in the beginning. The exiting canopy ride is nearly a mile long and has 11 platforms set high in the gigantic trees. Steel cables connect the platforms which are between 5 and 30 meters in height.
You will not forget the experience of flying along our 300 meters long shot over a canyon between the second and the third platform, or the incredible 500 meters long ride through the jungle along a creek.

Suntrails:

A trip suspended between the tree tops and then a refreshing swim for a period of 40 minutes in Montezuma Waterfalls.
Departure times: 9:00 AM-13:00 PM and 15:00 PM

ATV Tour

If you want to feel the adrenaline and discover rough roads so the quads are a great choice for you. That is a wonderful ride as you can see monkeys on the way and go across the little streams.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding through the Caletas –Arío Reserve is one of the best experiences on the pacific coast. It takes about two hours of pure enjoyement, guided by experienced cowboys you will have the chance of watching different kinds of birds and beautiful views of landscapes and the ocean. Nothing tops galloping on the beach in Costa Rica.

Snorkeling at Tortuga Island

This tiny island is one of the most popular snorkeling and diving destinations in Costa Rica. The reasons are simple: white sand, clear water and bright coral reefs. You can get there from Montezuma and Mal Pais by boat or from Curú Reserve where you can do both boat and kayak.
